Stayin alive on the Road

When I got out of work tonight the weather was not looking good. It looked like it could start raining any minute and was in about the mid 40's. I was thinking about hitting up the rail trails on my mountain bike but decided if it started raining I would rather be on the road than on a muddy energy sucking rail trail. So I took off for a quick 20 mile loop that I have staked out around my house. The plan was to work in some intervals on the flatter sections but my legs weren't up to it and my knee is still pretty sore from being slammed into my steering tube on Saturdays race. So I just settled into a good pace and had a nice spin. It worked out pretty good I had some thinking to do about how to work my finances so that I could get me new MTB as soon as possible.

When I was almost finished with my ride and I was about 4 blocks from my house I was coming down the street and some dumbass at a stop sign stopped and then continued turn left right into my lane and forced me off the road and into a ditch. Luckily it was a soft shoulder and didn't have a curb. If I hadn't seen him coming he would have taken me out. This is the closest I've come to being hit by a car since getting my road bike. It's just amazes me how people just don't pay attention.

Other than that not much happening. Thinking a lot about my race from Saturday and what I can do better next time. The next race isn't until the first weekend in May so I got some good training time before it. It's raining now and it looks like rain all week with some possible snow mixed in so I will probably be heading back onto the trainer. I'm not really looking forward to that but it is a necessary evil that is nice sometimes for specific workouts.

Here's a few pics that Rob took from Saturdays race.

Heading into the singletrack at the beginning of the race.

Post race relaxing

That's the classic left hook Harp. Ride intersections like you are going to run them. Keeps you more alert.

I reckon I'll stick with dirt than take the chance of being sidewinded
