Training Race

Saturday we finally were able to have one of the Flatwater Cycling Training Races. Originally it was supposed to be two weekends in a row of a Saturday Crit and a Sunday XC MTB race. The first weekend the crit was snowed out and it was to muddy to race the XC race. This Saturday it was raining but we still did the crit but were out on the XC again.

I raced the crit. I wasn't expecting much out of myself since I had a really tough week of training and then with the all the time spent traveling on Thursday evening and all day Friday. As we lined up and we got going everything was fine but about half way through I could feel that I was getting a little tired and found myself on the back of the pack which had me yo-yoing through the turns having to slow down for the riders in front of me and then having to push to keep up. With about 5 laps to go I heard a couple of riders talking about going for a break and when they went I matched and went with them. The only problem was it was right by the start finish and they rang for a prime after that and when the group accelerated I just didn't have it in me and cracked and ended up out the back of the group where I finished the rest of the race.

It wasn't really the best showing but this year I am looking at the season differently adn really focusing my attention to the state championship races so the rest are not priorities, especially a training race like this one. It was a good day to get out and test the legs even in the rain.

Here's a quick video of one of the laps when I was sitting in a bad position:
